The PT Marina Development Indonesia (MDI), in collaboration with PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Pelindo) has officially begun the construction of Bali Benoa Marina with a groundbreaking ceremony held on 22 May 2025.
Destined to be Indonesia’s first full-service international yacht marina, the construction will be a monumental milestone in setting Indonesia as a premier yacht destination in Southeast Asia.
With full-support from Indonesia’s local government, the marina’s construction is recognised to become a principal factor in elevating the country’s tourism capabilities, stimulating economic growth and overall development, empower Indonesia’s marine tourism, and position the country as a global yachting destination as a part of their Maritime Tourism Hub master plan.
“The development of Bali Benoa Marina marks a pivotal moment in Indonesia's transition toward upscale, sustainable tourism. By embracing world-class marine infrastructure, we are not only enhancing our appeal to global yachting communities but also creating new economic opportunities for our coastal regions,” said Widiyanti Putri Wardhana, Minister of Tourism of the Republic of Indonesia.
Aside from this, the local government also believes that Indonesia, as an archipelago, possesses vast opportunities for marine tourism given the large number of beautiful islands and scenic bodies of water all over their territory. The construction of the marina is recognised to align with Indonesia’s potential for high-value tourism and travel for tourists all over the world.
“This project aligns closely with our flagship agenda of upscaling Indonesia’s tourism profile through high-value, experience-based travel. We believe that marine tourism—rooted in our rich maritime heritage—can be one of Indonesia’s strongest offerings on the global tourism stage," Putri added.
The master plan design for Bali Benoa Marina and its 3.3ha waterfront development is set to change the yacht landscape in Southeast Asia, providing extraordinary opportunities for yacht tourism with the development of various facilities, which includes:
A hospitality zone with meeting, incentive, conference and exhibition facilities
A retail promenade featuring curated local and global brands
A lifestyle and events hub including food and beverage outlets and marine lifestyle experiences
Heavily guided by Balinese culture, the construction of the marina’s waterfront land master plan design is based on the Balinese philosophy of Sad Kerthi – which refers to the six noble behaviors of Balinese Hinduism. These six key principles that will be incorporated in the design are: spiritual purification, forest and water conservation, ocean preservation, human development and universal balance. This further elevates the uniqueness of the marina’s development since it is rooted in tradition and culture of its location.
The design will be led by 2M Design Lab, the appointed international waterfront architect, in close collaboration with Dr. Eng. Ir. I Wayan Kastawan ST, MA, who serves as the spiritual architectural advisor of MDI, the marina’s developers.
Set for completion in 2027, the Bali Benoa Marina is set to become a key driver in boosting Indonesia’s marine tourism and economic development while meeting the growing demand for premium yachting activities by naval aficionados all over the world.
